There is a rich, vibrant body of music that is the American Hymn. Through our world’s seeming lack of sentimentality and valuation of our own history, it seems that this music might slip into oblivion. The loss of its simple beauty, spiritual message that connects us with God and yes, even the sheer fun of singing it, would be a tragedy. The mission of the American Hymn Project is to catalog and reintroduce this music into our lives as if we were to sing it on Sunday.
