PROGRAM NOTES
The composer, John Sichel, received his musical training at the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Martin Bresnick, Jacob Druckman, and Nicholas Maw. It was from Yale that he received his doctorate in 1990. Sichel's recent works, along with those heard on this disc, include settings of the 95th and 137th Psalms, and several orchestral works including, most recently, Turnpike Music (1998), Ballade for orchestra (1999), and Symphonies of Vamps (2000). He is currently composer-in-residence with the New Philharmonic of New Jersey.
