CHRISTMAS with the Pro Arte Singers

CHRISTMAS with the Pro Arte Singers

ARTHUR SJOGREN, artistic director

"I like The Singers' rich, moody, and soft-edged harmonies...[the Pro Arte Singers] are exceptionally well-trained and well-coached (by famed musical director Arthur Sjögren). On this remarkably entertaining live recording, the Singers are joined by the Pro Arte Festival Orchestra. While the sound of the Pro Arte Singers lacks for nothing, still their sound receives a boost from The Orchestra, which yields an enriched musicality to this endeavor. Acoustically, Christmas with is a complete coup, as the lofty sound of choir and chamber orchestra weave a seamless tapestry of old-fashioned churchiness. I loved it.." [August 2006]
For more than 25 years, the Pro Arte Singers were distinguished as Fairfield (CT) and Westchester (NY) Counties' only choral group composed entirely of professional singers. The ensemble was recognized by critics as "the most outstanding chamber chorus in the East," and their performances as "marvelous, superb, inspiring!"  The Pro Arte Singers have performed under Maestro Arthur Sjogren since he founded the group in 1973; they were supported by a paid Managing Director and volunteer Board of Directors. Their repertoire covered the full range from Renaissance music and familiar favorites to commissioned pieces and premiere performances. They received international attention through their recordings for the Musical Heritage Society and the public television documentary Making Art, and have performed at major music festivals in this country and abroad.

The Pro Arte Singers was a not-for-profit organization supported by private contributions and ticket sales along with grants from private industry and foundations and the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
