PROGRAM NOTES
Matthew Bennett grew up in Titusville, Pennsylvania, and received his first musical instruction there. He attended Indiana University, graduating with a degree in saxophone performance.  While at IU he studied clarinet with Bernard Portnoy, and saxophone with Eugene Rousseau. He also studied composition and counterpoint with Bernhard Heiden and Jazz improvisation with David Baker. In New York he has continued his studies with John Moses and Dave Tofani on clarinet and Keith Underwood and Paul Dunkel on flute. Mr. Bennett has performed in many contexts. He has played jazz with Jaki Byard's Apollo Stompers and the Widespread Jazz Orchestra, as well as innumerable big band dates. He has performed chamber music, his own and others', on flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, and saxophone and played with the Indianapolis Symphony and the Westchester Philharmonic. He has played dozens of Broadway shows and in Radio City Music hall Orchestra. he has also arranged for small dance bands, Latin bands, and the Westchester Philharmonic. Matthew Bennett currently lives in Mahopac, New York. His most recent composition is his Variations for Violin and Orchestra.
Gerhardt Koch is presently principal clarinet with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, with which he recently performed Wener's Clarinet Concerto No. 1 and Stravinsky's Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet.
David Korevaar, in addition to his marvelous pianism, possesses great skill as a composer, which skill informs all his performances. He has played solo recitals, chamber music, and as a soloist with orchestra throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.
David Bursak, a former Juilliard student, plays viola for Mikhail Baryshinkov's White Oak Dance Chamber Ensemble.
Wendy Sutter, cello, attended the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School. A former member of the White Oak Dance Project Chamber Ensemble, she currently freelances in New York City.
