PROGRAM NOTES
Binnette Lipper has had music in her life from the every start. Piano lessons from the age of four and Sunday morning chamber music sessions with family members became a way of life. The urge to compose came early on, but piano study was foremost, leading to early concertizing and many years as a teacher of other pianists. She received a Bachelor's degree at Hunter College and did graduate work at Juilliard. Lipper studied composition with Ludmila Ulehla, Louise Talma, Ron Herder and Meyer Kupferman. The focus of Lipper's compositions has been on chamber works, but they also include piano solos and duets, works for solo voice and choral pieces, and music for chamber orchestra."The essential component of my music is communication. I strive to connect with my audience, be it performer or listener, and this connection may be aesthetic, intellectual or emotional. I hope my audience will come to the music with an open mind and an adventurous spirit. I can then give something in return: a musical journey that may encompass beauty or joy, pathos or pain, disillusionment or hope or humor. Music is, in the final analysis, a reflection of life, itself."
