Andrew
Simon
has won acclaim on four continents for his brilliant musicianship
and in the words of one music journalist, his "almost god-like technique".
Michael Tilson Thomas noted his "formidable technique, flair, and
musicianship".
A graduate of The Juilliard School, Mr. Simon has won the International
Clarinet Society Competition and the National Arts Club Competition in
New York. He has been Guest Principal with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra,
the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Mainly Mozart Orchestra.
After winning the Artists
International Young Musicians Auditions Clarinet Award in 1988, Andrew
Simon made his debut in the Carnegie Hall Recital Hall. In its review of
the event, The New York Times hailed his "brilliant" playing and, comparing
him to Benny Goodman, cited his fleetness and an ear for coloristic detail"
Since his debut, Mr. Simon
has embarked on a busy international career. He has appeared as soloist
and taught master classes in the US in addition to China, Canada, Japan, Taiwan,
Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. He toured 16 Japanese
cities under the sponsorship of Buffet-Crampon, and in 1992 became the
first American-born artist to perform in North Korea. He is National Chairperson
of the International Clarinet Association, and a regular contributor to
five international music journals. He has been invited as guest artist
to clarinet conventions on four continents. Mr. Simon has been heard
on WQXR in New York and on BBC3 with Peter Donohoe. He has been seen on
American, Yugoslavian, Chinese, North Korean and South Korean television. Andrew Simon is currently Principal Clarinet
of the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
Pianist Jon Klibonoff has established a versatile career as orchestra soloist, recitalist, and
chamber musician throughout the united States and abroad. His many awards
and prizes include the Silver Medal in the Gina Bachauer International
Piano Competition and winner of the Pro Musicis International Concert Series.
