ABOUT MSR
MSR Classics is an independent record label committed to a culture of musical excellence and superlative support for the recording artist. Founded in 1997, MSR offers the recording artist the means to create a Compact Disc of the finest quality, and distribute it in a worldwide marketplace. In a time when major record labels are less willing and able to accommodate the recording aspirations of many classical musicians, such a service is invaluable. MSR Classics is managed by Robert LaPorta, a 20-year veteran of the recording industry, who has served as Classical Director of the EMI Classics and Virgin Classics labels, Manager of Marketing and Special Products at PolyGram Classics & Jazz (which included the Deutsche Grammophon, London-Decca, Philips Classics, ECM, Mercury and Verve labels), and Publicity Manager at ICM Artists management in New York.
Whether an artist is creating a debut CD or adding to an existing catalogue of recordings, they benefit from MSR’s expert support and guidance. MSR recording artists find the entire production and release process manageable, efficient and satisfying. MSR Classics endeavors to produce CDs that aptly represent the artist’s image and musical gifts, while at the same time addressing all the necessary commercial concerns. Such complex goals can be elusive, but nonetheless serve as an important measure of success for the performing artist.
MSR Classics artists retain ownership of the master recording rights, as well as the CDs created from the master. Furthermore, MSR does not maintain a practice of catalogue deletion, but instead supports all titles in matters of press, radio and distribution for as long as is required - for the life of the product. Generous royalties are paid to artists semi-annually based on sales. All MSR titles are featured in the online MSR Classics Webstore, and are distributed worldwide through traditional retail and internet channels. MSR releases are also heard around the nation on radio and satellite stations thanks to consistent and widespread servicing. MSR recordings are also selectively made available for Digital Download.
As part of its commitment to the community of performing artists and industry professionals, MSR label personnel regularly attend conventions and conferences around the nation. In recent times, MSR has exhibited at events hosted by the International Horn Society, International Trumpet Guild, National Flute Association, International Double Reed Society, American Guild of Organists, and Chamber Music America where MSR hosted a number of Roundtable discussions on matters relating to the recording industry.
MSR Classics is proud to partner with some of the most talented and experienced recording producers and engineers in the business, and can provide artists with a list of potential collaborators upon request. These audio professionals are based throughout North America, offering artists great flexibility in choosing a recording venue for their project.
