MAURICE RAVEL: Two
Sonatas Berceuse & Tzigane
FRANK BRIDGE: Sonata

Libove Violin

"I
am really grateful that [Libove and Logovoy] are sharing these readings with us.
They fill their thrilling, extroverted Tzigane with huge amounts of
energy harnessed in a solid rhythmic framework, which makes for an
extraordinarily exciting performance. Their reading of the Sonata is tremendous.
I love Libove's singing sound. Don't miss this recording"

This violin and piano duo
have played together for many years, appearing all over the Americas, Europe,
and the Far East. Among his many accolades,
Charles Libove was winner of
the first Naumburg International Chamber Music Competition and the first
Enesco International Violin Competition. Active as both soloist and recording
artist, he has been Professor and Director of Strings at New York University
as well as being a faculty member at the State University of New York,
the American University, and Peabody Conservatory.
Nina Lugovoy studied at the
Curtis Institute and was a faculty member at New York University. In addition
to numerous live performances, she has recorded recitals for the BBC and
CBC and has appeared on American Public Television. The duo’s new recording features
the lush impressionistic sounds of Maurice Ravel in the only four works
that he composed for violin and piano. The earliest (published after his
death) was composed at age 23. A quarter of a century later he composed
the exquisite Berceuse, followed two years later by a brilliantly contrasting
Tzigane with its gypsy-like melodies and astonishing virtuosic passages
(performed on the CD with elan and polish). Ravel’s last work for violin
and piano is the sonata dating from 1927. The recording includes the
the 1932 sonata by the English composer Frank Bridge, written in one movement
but encompassing four distinct sections and tempi.
