"The
performers make a fine team. They achieve flawless ensemble and
perfect balance, in which both the similarities and contrasts between
the two instruments are evident. Linda Marianiello ...plays with
a full-bodied and colorful tone, liquid, yet articulate. Keith
Reas['s]...playing is rhythmic, controlled, and sensitive. The
registrations are always appropriate, achieving the proper balance as
well as variety of color and dynamic. All of these works are worthy
candidates for your "organ plus" list, and these are exemplary
performances."

The
Marianiello-Reas Duo
(Linda Marianiello, flutist, and Keith Reas, organist) has been performing together as a duo since 1994. They have premiered new works and performed on important concert series throughout the United States, including the Yale School of Music Artist Series (New Haven), the St. Andrew Music Society (New York), Music at St. Mark’s Capitol Hill (Washington), the Millennial Frobenius Concert Series (Saratoga Springs) and the Augustana Artist Series (Denver).
The nine pieces on this disc, all by contemporary Americans, each showcase the special timbral qualities of the modern pipe organ and flute. Most of the featured composers write in a contemporary but firmly tonal style, wonderfully enhanced by the spacious acoustic of the Augustana Lutheran Church.
The organ is a
4-manual, 63-rank instrument built by the Schantz Organ Company in 1941
and enlarged in 1985.
