REVIEWS
"It takes a player of some confidence and experience to put out a disc of unaccompanied works, doubly so perhaps for the notoriously difficult French horn. Stebleton brings both to this enterprise... this disc is also a clear demonstration of Stebleton's mastery of the horn and a record of some pieces which challenge and demand of the player without resorting to extremities of technique for the mere sake of it. There is both musical and technical satisfaction here, thanks to the choice of repertoire and a player well-versed in handling it. the works are thought-provoking, the playing outstanding... Ms. Stebleton [is] a remarkable player with formidable technical and interpretive skills."
Kilpatrick, American Record Guide - January / February 2011
PROGRAM NOTES
Marathon is a collection of works for unaccompanied horn encompassing both standard and new repertoire. Each work is programmatic, allowing the horn player to create musical images that can be understood by audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The unaccompanied literature is not only technically and physically challenging–hence the title Marathon–it pushes the performer to expressive heights as well.

Michelle Stebleton has been a recognized horn soloist since her teens, having earned prizes in four divisions of the American Horn Competition as well as the International Horn Society Solo Competition. Ms. Stebleton has been called a “phraseologist,” a testimony to her musical abilities. She has traveled the world, regularly performing at international conferences and festivals, serving as a soloist, lecturer, clinician and chamber artist. In addition to teaching horn at Florida State University, she performs with MirrorImage, a horn duo with Lisa Bontrager and serves as an IHS Advisory Council Member. A Michigan native, Michelle Stebleton received two degrees from the University of Michigan, where she studied both valve horn and natural horn with Louis J. Stout and Lowell Greer. Ms. Stebleton is a Holton-Leblanc Artist Clinician and sole proprietor of RM Williams Publishing.
