PROGRAM NOTES
In the Spring of 1999, Douglas Hill was awarded an Emily Mead Baldwin Bell-Bascom Professorship in the Creative Arts through the auspices of the Arts Consortium of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This honor included a grant for continued research and scholarly activities focusing on composition. The culmination of Hill's efforts is this special collection of works which features performances by his students and colleagues from the School. Each of the two discs features music in a wide variety of styles and mediums, amply demonstrating Professor Hill's eclectic compositional output from the late 1970's to the present. All but one of the recordings were made on the UW Campus, and were recorded by James Stuht, recording engineer for the School of Music since 1973. The "Song Suite in Jazz Style" was recorded at Central Washington University.
