The choice to record unaccompanied violin repertoire was made to highlight the sound of the violin and the expression which can be achieved without the orchestra or piano present. There is solo violin music which is an integral part of the repertoire and the violinists' musical development, and there is also solo violin music which is not as popular in the public eye. The selections on this recording address both types: Bach being the "Bible" for for the violin student and the professional alike, Ysaÿe a later proponent of the form, whose sonatas have taken their place as important works; and Geminiani and Ben-Haim, two very different composers at opposite ends of the spectrum who both are deserving of a wider audience.
