The Borealis Wind Quintet
combines innovative programming and musical excellence with a lively efferescent
style to charm audiences of all ages. Founded in 1976, they are regarded
as one of the top chamber ensembles performing today. The Borealis has received numerous awards and prizes for its musical excellence, among
them grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and
Chamber Music America.
Earlier in its career
the ensemble gained national recognition when they were "Young
Artists to Watch" by High Fidelity/Musical America. Each season the Borealis
tours the United States and has appeared in such prestigious venues
as Wolf Trap, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, the Frick Museum (both
in Pittsburgh and New York) and in concert halls in the South, Midwest,
and West. They are in demand for recitals and master classes at universities
and colleges throughout the country, and have performed at Princeton University,
the University of Toronto, Baylor University, Temple University, Notre
Dame University and the University of Pennsylvania, among many others.
