Richard
Sher has appeared in major concert halls across Europe and in New York in
both recital and concerto appearances. He was a scholarship student with Leonard
Rose and Channing Robbins at the Juilliard School, and won major prizes at
Merriweather Post, Hudson Valley, Washington D.C. and Dallas International
competitions. Sher made his New York debut at the age of 16 as a soloist with
the New York Orchestral Society. At age 18, he became the youngest cellist ever
to join the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the following year he became the
youngest principal cellist ever of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. A
founding member of the internationally acclaimed Vermeer Quartet, he has
collaborated with artists such as Peter and Rudolf Serkin, Richard Goode,
members of the Budapest and Guarneri Quartets at festivals such as Spoleto and
Marlboro. Sher has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the Saint Louis
Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of St. Lukes.
In Europe, he has given recitals in Berlin’s Hochschule, Vienna’s
Beethovensaal, London’s Wigmore Hall and The Hague’s Diligentia Hall.
