Dr.
Peter Wood serves as
Assistant Professor of Music (Trumpet and Music Theory) at the University of
South Alabama in Mobile. As a trumpeter, he has performed throughout the
United States in various solo, chamber, jazz, and orchestral settings. He
plays principal trumpet with the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra and also
performs regularly with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with
a variety of ensembles including the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Brass
Quintet, Bloomington Symphony, Columbus Pro Musica, Danville Symphony,
Camerata Orchestra, and Wood Family Chamber Players. Solo performances
include appearances at conferences of the International Trumpet Guild,
College Music Society, Society of Electroacoustic Music in the United
States, and at the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival. He has played
recitals and taught master classes at numerous colleges and universities
around the United States and serves the International Trumpet Guild as
editor of the Recording Reviews column for the ITG Journal.
Wood
earned the Doctor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance and Literature at
Indiana University-Bloomington, the Master of Music degree in Trumpet
Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Bachelor of
Science in Music Education degree (Summa Cum Laude) at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His principal trumpet teachers include Stephen
Burns, Edmund Cord, John Aley, Ray Sasaki, Michael Tunnell, and Patrick
Dessent.
