"...an
excellent disc...Much of the music on 'A La Carte' is bright, cheerful and
yet emotionally moving owing to the BWQ’s expert grasp of ensemble
color...The Borealis Wind Quintet [are] a real find. They
blend with a crispness and cohesion...The whole disc is excellent, with
outstanding quality of sound."

"The
Borealis Wind Quintet are a superb ensemble. Their playing is precise
without ever being merely pedantic; their control of dynamics is masterly
and their internal balance is faultless. All five members are both
sensitive and technically accomplished musicians. - The
recorded sound is excellent."

"...a
program of ...gems that will delight music lovers almost as much as it
will woodwind quintet connoisseurs...The virtuosic performances are
uniformly sweet and captivating...the sound has a wonderful warm bloom
with an exceptional sense of space that repays higher volumes making for a
good light workout that will test the timbral accuracy of any music
system. The affectionate, authoritative notes...add greatly to the
listening pleasure.

Through
our years of touring and performing, one of our biggest challenges has
been concert programming-finding, rehearsing & presenting works that
we and our audiences will find stimulating, enjoyable and entertaining.
While we are always on the lookout for larger, substantial works, we
inevitably come across smaller pieces that capture our imagination, little
gems we feel deserve exposure.
We have
included these pieces in our performances to give our listeners a respite,
a breather from the more challenging works inherent in the wind
repertoire. This CD is a collection of some our most-played,
most-requested, most-enjoyed shorter works. It is our hope that you will
enjoy these pieces as much as we have over the years.

The Borealis
Wind Quintet was formed
in 1976 and continues to earn appreciative applause from audiences as well
as exceptional press reviews wherever they tour. The New York Times commented
on the musicians’ “lively, communicative” performances; the Washington
Post noted their “superb and skillful playing,” and the Philadelphia Inquirer
cited “the sort of rapport that characterizes the very best chamber playing.”
